PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 2010

Emotional Development and Well Being

Alarmingly, research and observation are showing us that depression in children even the very young, is on the rise. In response to this trend, the Federal Government has funded the ‘KIDS MATTER PROJECT’ to the tune of $13 million, and in August 2009, an early childhood component was added.

EYES is pleased to present a workshop for all early childhood educators  interested in developing emotional resilience and promoting a sense of wellbeing in young children. At the end of the presentation a Q&A session has been allocated, to address any concerns you may be experiencing in your classroom. To provide a more detailed and thorough answer, you may wish to give prior notice of your question, with details in the space provided at the end of the registration form.

The Virtues Project Global Mentorship Conference 2009

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the forthcoming Virtues Project Global Mentorship Conference in Perth, Western Australia, from November the 26th to November the 29th, 2009. My name is Jill Kennedy and I am leading the Perth Virtues Project Connection Group in coordinating this event.

For the past 15 months the founders of the Virtues Project have been lovingly devoting their time to caring for one of their members; John Kavelin, as he came to terms with an aggressive brain tumour. After John’s recent passing, Linda Kavelin Popov and Dr Dan Popov have accepted several invitations to speak publicly; one being in Australia. With acceptance of this invitation, they asked the Perth Virtues Project Connection group to organise a Mentorship this year. Hence, we have had short notice to organise the event.

2009 CONFERENCE

FEEDBACK FROM DELEGATES AND PRESENTERS

Dear EYES Conference team

Many thanks for your assistance with the organisation and running of our Spring Conference this year.  From my perspective as a delegate, the conference organisation was professionally done with sessions easy to access and find, and the program on time and smoothly run.  The EYES conference is easily the most valuable professional learning that I access each year and this year was no exception.

I look forward to the 2010 conference.

 warm wishes

I have been coming to the EYES conference as a presenter for quite a while now. They have all been a pleasure, this year no exception. Great participation rates, with enthusiastic and generous delegates.

I learn so much at EYES, there are always wonderful speakers and this gives me a chance to reflect on a variety of issues. It’s not all about presenting! The organisation this year was very smooth, and flexible enough to cater for the way people are. Some presenters need time to get their points across, others are more aware of time restraints. It all becomes possible with a flexible attitude. The Sheraton of course was a delight. Their levels of professional support was excellent. I especially like the little, personal, light hearted moments, such as Kathleen Comber doing a finger play in miniature! The conference is joyous, responsive and wonderful.

Just a quick note to say how wonderful the conference was.  I think it was one of the best, well done to you and the committee.  I was so happy with all my concurrent sessions and have come away with some great ideas - isn’t Louise Porter wonderful, if we could all have a school psych like her - half the problems in school would be solved.  It was so nice to catch up with you and Joy too.  Joy’s presentation was just amazing, I had tears in my eyes so many times, she is just such a treasure.

Hope you didn’t have to stay back too long, the organisation of the event from an attendees perspective was spot on - very impressive.

EYES CONFERENCE

E.Y.E.S has stood the test of time and as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary we reflect on all that have gone before us to make our Society what it is today. We are very blessed to have Vi Galatis and Pauline Starkey from the original committee, still active on our committee. They are a source of wisdom and knowledge and good old common sense at times and we are very grateful for their presence. The Society has presented PD and run Conferences all these years. It would be impossible to calculate just how many teachers have been touched by E.Y.E.S and the dedicated committee members who have made it all possible. There are so many people to thank. This Conference exceeded my expectations due to our wonderful Events WA and our committed committee: Gillian Venables, Michelle Sullivan, Heather Kerr, Vi Galatis, Pauline Starkey, Leonie Day, Jane Fransz, Giovanna Anfuso, Dianne Donovan, Jodie McQueen, Nicole Brown Laura- Celeste Armstrong and our newer members, Margaret Yagamich and Louise Bloomer, for helping in so many ways to create this Conference and make it fitting of the celebration. The atmosphere was charged with great energy as participants celebrated with us.

A warm thank you to all involved. I feel honoured to be part of this amazing organisation and may it have much to celebrate in the future.

Warmly

Kath Comber
